Can someone tell me if it is realistic to study in yemen while married? Does anyone have a dollar figure and standard of living idea? Also, are visas an issue if i am an american passport holder and my wife is a foreginer passport holder?

Bismillah.
As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullah...
Alhamdulillah, the simple answer is yes, it is very realistic, and many have done it. In fact, many of the students from the West that have studied and or lived in Tarim were married, with children.
As for costs, well, as I always say (and I should have started a FAQ on this a long time ago) it all depends on your standard of living and what you and your family require and what you can live without, etc. In general though, and Allah knows best, but it takes about $8,000-$10,000 to completely set yourself up and live for the first year (yes, year). That is after you actually get there (i.e., that does not include plane tickets and moving expenses). "Setting up" means securing a place to live, furnishing the place (assuming that it is unfurnished, which is usually the case, and plus, I don't think most people would like used stuff, in Yemen). "Living" includes things such as water, food, electricity, phone, internet (if you need it), basic transportation, and other such things. Some might be able to pull it off with a little less than $8,000, but yet others might need a little more than $10,000. The good news is that the second year is less expensive than the first (because you only need to furnish the place once (furnishing = stove, refrigerator, air conditioning units (at least 2), bedding, utensils, dishes, cookware, carpets, curtains (or something to cover the windows at least), etc.)).
As for visas, well, it all depends, can your wife get a US travel document? Also, what country are we talking about? In theory, it should be possible, but there are so many factors involved, including where you are living right now, etc.
